Meet The Panelists:
Dr. Henry Liu

Center for Connected and Automated Transportation (CCAT)

Dr. Henry Liu is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University  of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He is also a Research Professor at the University of Michigan Transportation  Research Institute (UMTRI) and the Director for the Center for Connected and Automated  Transportation (USDOT Region 5 University Transportation Center). Prof. Liu conducts interdisciplinary  research at the intersection of transportation engineering, automotive engineering, and artificial  intelligence. Specifically, his scholarly interests concern traffic flow monitoring, modeling, and control,  as well as testing and evaluation of connected and automated vehicles. He has published more than 120  refereed journal papers on these topics and his work have been widely recognized in the public media  for promoting smart transportation innovations. He has appeared on media outlets including CNBC,  Forbes, Technode, etc. In 2019, Professor Liu was invited to testify on national transportation research  agenda in front of the US House Subcommittee on Research and Technology. Professor Liu has nurtured  a new generation of scholars, and some of his PhD students and postdocs have joined first class  universities such as Columbia University, Purdue University, RPI, etc. Prof. Liu is also the managing editor  of Journal of Intelligent Transportation Systems.

Indu is a specialist in systems, software, algorithms and perception for self-driving cars. As AEye's head of product management for ADAS solutions, she works hand-in-hand with the company’s business and technical side on ADAS product roadmap and development, while collaborating with Tier1 partners to ensure timely delivery and automotive-grade reliability of AEye ADAS components. Prior to AEye, Indu spent five years at Delphi/Aptiv, where, as a senior software engineer on the Autonomous Driving team, she played a major role in bridging ADAS sensors and algorithms, and extending them for mobility.

Erik has been closely involved in the wireless industry for the last 25+  years, as he first started in the paging industry at the very birth of  wireless data solutions. Most recently, Erik has been instrumental in  deploying and architecting 4G LTE and 5G broadband and  narrowband wireless networks along with their complementary  products and services for Verizon Wireless.  

Erik has extensive application and network support experience in all  wireless networking protocols in the WWAN space. He is currently  leading the technology group that provides the implementation and  expertise for all technical, and network implementation technology  for both Telematics and Industrial IoT partners throughout the  world. He has personally helped well over a thousand companies  integrate Verizon Wireless’s network and technology into their  products and services, enabling them to improve their own  customer’s satisfaction and drive millions of dollars of new revenue  for their core business.

Cynthia Slowik is an Innovation Manager for the 5G Lab in NYC. She’s responsible for live virtual event programming, innovation workshops, and supporting co-creation initiatives across the NYC and Verizon innovation ecosystem. Most recently she executed an event series partnership with WXR to highlight relevant XR topics in a variety of virtual platforms. Notable work achievements from producing NYCxDESIGN, New York City’s official Design ‘Week’ and an active mentor for several highly-regarded tech accelerators such as Barclay's Accelerator, powered by Techstars and hardware tech Futureworks incubator programs.
